Refugee Week

20-26 June

Refugee Week takes place every year across the world in the week around World Refugee Day on the 20 June. In the UK, Refugee Week is a nationwide programme of arts, cultural and educational events that celebrate the contribution of refugees to the UK, and encourages a better understanding between communities.
Beyond Skin will be facilitating Refugee Awareness workshops in schools and youth clubs as well as special events for World Music Day on June 21st. A special concert at St. Anne's Cathedral, Belfast will take place on 23rd June. This is in partnership with the Red Cross, NICRAS and Belfast Friendship Club.

Young people from the community Intercultural Programme embark on making movement a movement

Shankill Road Belfast

As part of the Beyond Skin 'Understanding Diversity through the World Of Music, Arts & Dance' accreditation programme men from Protestant Fife & Drums bands will take part in a course working alongside musician Mauricio Velezsierra from Colombia.

The project will lead to a finale event 30th March: 7pm - 9pm at The Mac Belfast as part of the Music Unite project. Email for details.

As part of the Beyond Skin 'Understanding Diversity through the World Of Music, Arts & Dance' accreditation programme young people in Ballycastle and Lisburn have completed the course working alongside musician Heidi Heidelberg that lead to celebrations for International Women's Day.
During the course students were so moved learning about the link between children working in mines in the Congo and the mineral Coltan, found in all mobile phones - they wrote a song about it.

As part of the WOMADNI 'Understanding Diversity through the World Of Music, Arts & Dance' accreditation programme, young people in Ballycastle and Lisburn will be have the opportunity to work alongside musician Heidi Heidelberg in the week leading up to International Women's Day on March 8.

An Open College Network (OCN) course for the WOMAD Outreach Programme, has been developed and is available available to over 15s. Several of these courses ran very successfully in both 2014 and in the first quarter of 2015.

Established by UNESCO in 2001, World Science Day for Peace and Development is celebrated worldwide on 10 November each year. It offers an opportunity to demonstrate to the wider public why science is relevant to their daily lives and to engage them in debate on related issues.

Belfast hosts WOMAD event for Fête de la Musique aka World Music Day. Through significant funding from Belfast City Council's Creative Legacies programme, supported by the European Regional Development Fund under the PEACE III Programme the first phase of a four year WOMAD Outreach Programme encompassing festivals and showcase events has started with schools in Belfast.
